You’ve been talking about iOS 18 Public Beta and I wondered if it’s safe to download. Is it available to download yet or do we have to wait?

I’ve been dropping a few videos this week about the new features coming to all your i-Devices when iOS 18 is launched. I’ve been experimenting with it for the last month or so, while it’s in beta mode.

The good news - it’s finally in Public Beta - meaning anyone can download it. In fact, Apple wants you to download it because they hope you will report any issues with it. (you don’t have to, btw)

The not so great news - it’s still in Beta so it’s possible there could be some lagging, or crashing.

My suggestion: Download it to your iPad first. Give it a try - play around with it. That’s exactly how I got started with it. You don’t want brand new software on your phone until you’re at least somewhat familiar with it.

Myth: Closing apps on your phone saves battery.
Fact: Your phone is smarter than you think! It knows how to handle apps in the background without wasting battery. Closing and reopening apps actually uses more power. To really save battery, lower your screen brightness and turn off notifications you don’t need.

Myth: More RAM means a faster computer. 
Fact: More RAM helps with multitasking, but if you want your computer to speed up, switch from an old-fashioned hard drive to a new SSD (solid-state drive). This will make your computer run much faster and smoother.

Myth: Always let your phone’s battery drain fully before recharging. 
Fact: Today's phone batteries don’t need to be drained completely. In fact, letting them drop to zero can damage them. Try to keep your battery between 20% and 80% for the best results.

Myth: Incognito mode keeps your browsing completely private. 
Fact: Incognito mode only stops your browser from saving your history and cookies. It doesn’t hide your activity from your internet provider or the websites you visit. For better privacy, consider using a VPN (a virtual private network).

Myth: You need expensive HDMI cables for better quality. 
Fact: Save your money! HDMI signals are digital, so the data either gets through or it doesn’t. There’s no difference between a $10 cable and a $100 cable for most home setups.

Shopping at the TikTok Shop…

I know TikTok might seem like it's just for the younger crowd, but let me tell you, it's got some fantastic surprises for us, too! Aside from the videos, TikTok has a complete shopping experience like no other, called the TikTok Shop. It's a treasure trove of anything you can imagine. In fact, it’s becoming so popular that even Amazon can feel it nipping at their feet.

Here’s where TikTok Shop is winning - shopable videos from everyday folks. Yep, you can see real people (including yours truly) reviewing products in real-time, so you know exactly what you're getting, kinda like having your best friend give you a personal shopping recommendation. And it’s easy to buy from any video by just finding the orange shopping cart on screen. A few clicks and boom, it’s on it’s way to your house.

So, dip your toes. I will warn you though - it’s EASY to go down the rabbit hole and find way more stuff than you need.
