My phone used to show a full screen when it would ring. Now it only shows a banner at the top. How can I change that?

When iOS 17 launched this was a big change for some people. Especially those of use who like things the way we are used to. BUT what Apple didn’t tell us is it can go back to the way it was at any time.

Here’s how to change it: Settings > Phone > Incoming Calls > Change to full screen.

Go back to the banner at anytime by changing back to banner following the same steps.

Know Who is Calling on Silent Mode

Did you know most people now keep their phone on silent mode? Gone are the days of walking through a random store and you hear the latest pop hit blaring from someone’s phone via a ringtone. But the ringtone is helpful, especially when we have a different song set up for every person.

Alas, there are options for silent mode! Did you know you can create a custom vibration when someone calls? Helpful to tell if you really need to get that call or not (I definitely don’t need another person to talk to me about my cars warranty). LOL

If this is something you want to set up, it’s not hard at all. Plus, it is a discreet way to determine who is calling you.

To set this up, go to Settings > Contacts > Haptics > Create new Vibration

Tap the screen to create a custom vibration then tap Save. Name it, then it appears under Haptics as a choice for that contact. You can customize as many of these as you like. Have a little fun with it!

My oldest has graduated high school and has now started the next chapter. This week he had an overnight onboarding experience at his soon to be new address. As a parent, it was a nostalgic and emotional day. I remember moving in to my dorm and getting ready for a new, weird, independent life. And also remembered how quickly that time came and went. Now, preparing my 1st kid for this experience brings joy, fear, anxiety, pride, and tears. Yep - leaving him there the other day was harder for me than I anticipated.

Here’s a pic I took with tears in my eyes when he got to the dorm, and tried out his extra long twin bed. Which, btw, he just fits… at 6ft 4.
